Grabba Beast™ Launches!

We are very excited to announce the launch of Grabba Beast, a site where you can browse, rate, download, print and share your self-created beasts. With the TWW crew, we designed the site and illustrated all of the Grabbas as well as the backgrounds.

Over a year-and-a-half of love went into this project, so dive in and start making your Beast! We also did a sweet video you can check out here.

Vote on our 2011 Relay For Life T-Shirt

A few months ago, Josh and I were asked by the American Cancer Society to produce a few t-shirt designs that would be used for the 2011 Relay For Life which is a volunteer-driven cancer fundraising event. Both of our lives have been effected by cancer and we are honored to have been chosen as the artists for 2011. You can now go and vote on which of our four designs you think should be used for the event.

4 Days Remain: Facebook & Twitter Icons

The show opens this Thursday! We spent the weekend framing all 50 piece for the show and we are going to spend this week prepping everything at Together Gallery for the the opening.

Want to show your support for the show? Above (in blue) is a set of icons to use as your Facebook profile pic or Twitter icon as we countdown until Thursday night’s opening. Each icon represents a legend, myth, or superstition from “Sea Legs.” Your support means a lot to us!

10 Days: Sneak Peek of the Giant Octopus

Today’s sneak peak from “Sea Legs” (which opens February 25th) is our piece on the legendary Giant Octopus. We read a lot of books and did a ton of research on myths and superstitions for “Sea Legs”. With that said, we also took the liberty to make some up on our own. One of those is our story about the Giant Octopus being the guard of the ocean’s greatest treasures. Of course, no one ever got close enough to discover these riches before being taken by the octopus.

Remember to RSVP for the show and help us spread the word!

16 Days: Jolby Photoshoot

Our incredible photographer friends Aaron Courter and fellow Sea Leg-er Ashley Forrette brought us to this sweet skatepark in North Portland to take a few shots. Together, Aaron and Ashley make Pancake Studios. We love what they do and are super stoked that they took some shots of us. Check out their work here.

20 Days: Sezio Interview

Last year we had the pleasure of meeting some of the guys from Sezio, a non-profit artists’ organization who are a provider of resource, exposure, and community support to artists and musicians based in San Diego. They sat down with us recently to talk about life, art, and what 2010 holds for Jolby. You’ll also see sneak peaks from the show in the interview. Check it out here!

22 Days Remain: Wood Cut-Outs

Today’s sneak peek-age are two of many wood cut-outs designed by us for the show and cut out by Joe at Engrave. Each of these small pieces represents a myth or superstition. They will eventually be framed and have either paint, illustration, or photography behind them. When you come to the show we can tell you what they mean!

Goodies from Gold Coast

Our good friend Dustin is part of a pretty sick company called Gold Coast Longboards. They have a great collection of boards and gear. They are in the works of launching their 2010 catalog. We might be doing some collab work with Gold Coast in the future, which would be awesome. They sent us some sweet goodies this week. Check out their products here.

Tangible Worldwide’s Campaign for Haiti

It is my great pleasure to announce Tangible’s campaign for Haiti. They have posters, buttons, wallpapers, avatars and more available at http://haiti.tangibleworldwide.com. 100% of the proceeds go to Haiti charities, and Tangible is matching up to $3,000 on top of the proceeds. Josh and I designed and illustrated the poster which is being screen printed by Portland’s Seizure Palace.

“&1” featured in Anno Domini’s Art of Zines Show

We were invited to put our latest zine into a zine exhibition titled “Anno Domini presents Art of Zines” which opens February 5th at the San Jose Museum of Art. The event is a celebration of current zinesters and we hope an inspiration to those that may, or may not, have thought of starting one. More info here.

29 Days: Artwork Sneak Peaks

Today we give you a sneak peak of two pieces from the “Sea Legs” show (these are just crops of the full artwork to get you all antsy). The first is from a legend about an old sailor spending his life hunting the elusive Kraken. Most of the artwork from the show will combine Ashley’s photography with our illustration and we’re stoked with how the mix is coming out. The second crop is from our version of Lady Luck. She is covered in sailing tattoos that each carry their own meaning to sailors. The majority of the pieces will combine photograph with illustration, but there will also be just illustrated pieces like the second crop. Josh has been experimenting with new painting techniques which you can see behind each illustration.

“Sea Legs” A Collaborative Journey of Jolby & Ashley Forrette

We are very pleased to announce a new show with Ashley Forrette called “Sea Legs” at Together Gallery in Portland, Oregon. The opening night of the show is February 25th and will run through March.

The show will explore the mythology and superstitions of the sea and will combine the photography of Ashley Forrette with the illustrative talent of Jolby. Included in the show will also be Dolls for Friends (contributing a large felt piece), Shoko Saito (contributing some decoration), wood-cut, hand-pianted pieces cut by Engrave, and an original soundtrack composed and recorded by The Graduate.

It will be a must-see evening in Portland and we hope to see you all there! It will be our first show including all of our great friends. We will be previewing new work every week until the opening with the first post starting tomorrow. Stay tuned!
